Everyone has a basic survival instinct, but to make it through certain situations, you must know precisely what to do. While some of these skills are born into us, most survival techniques must be learned and perfected over time. Whether stranded on a deserted island or lost in the woods, arming yourself with knowledge is the best way to stay safe and ultimately survive whatever life throws. Here are some essential outdoor basic skills to have. Fire is the king of survival skills. Fire can purify water, cook food, alert rescuers, and provide warmth, light, and comfort. It can also help keep predators at bay and be a good friend and companion. As a survival technique, it is essential. Ideally, it would be best if you had a lighter or matches in an emergency. Everyone venturing outdoors should have at least two ways to start a fire with them. A few small fires provide more heat than a large fire.

First aid as a survival method is not a basic medical necessity but an immediate action for survival. Do not panic. Stay calm and do your best to take care of yourself. Sit down, think, observe, and plan when lost or in trouble. The most crucial factor is keeping your brain working rationally. This is your primary first aid for survival. Before each trip, analyze your needs, undergo a medical examination, and always carry a small personal kit. Most survival situations only require dressing for minor cuts, bruises, and individual medical needs. Make sure you know what to bring and how to use them.

Signaling is unique among survival technologies because it provides the means and ability to alert potential rescuers who need assistance. Fires, flashing lights, brightly painted signs, flags, mirrors, and whistles can help. Three fires in the shape of a triangle are a recognized danger signal. Only use normal signal mirrors when you see aircraft or people in the distance. Use emergency lights at night to attract the attention of anyone nearby.
