An AI algorithm that could analyze a headshot drawing and convert it into a full-fledged detailed headshot photo has been long-awaited. Such an AI algorithm has finally been brought to life by scientists from the University of Hong Kong.

Police are known to trace the criminals down with the help of hand-drawn portraits. There is an element of human error in these portraits and they are unreliable at times. This AI algorithm can help the police draw up actual headshot images of the criminals helping them tracing them down.

This AI algorithm needed to be trained at first. A database of headshots of 17,000 celebrities was generated and then each of those headshots was hand traced. Hand drawing of those headshots was fed to the algorithm who then matched it with the perfect headshot, developing all the facial expressions for a complete image.

There is, however, a drawback to this algorithm. The images that it produces are of white people only, since it was trained on white people portraits. Scientists believe that they can alter this algorithm in the future making It capable of producing headshots of various skin tones.
